mango pickle

My Auntie Duzz (nickname for Susan) is one of the best cooks I know. For the holidays she gave me a jar of Sukhi’s mango pickle which she discovered at a San Francisco farmer’s market years ago. It’s spicy, strong, and perhaps a little too salty. Still it is my favorite spice kick of the moment. Thank you Sukhi’s!

While we’re on the subject, last February I was in in Eugene, OR for a Food Justice Conference and I realized over the first day’s lunch break that indian food is my comfort food. Even though I was not raised eating much but chicken nuggets and pizza, there’s something about Indian food that evokes warmth, ease, and home—especially a lunch buffet which presents me with enough options to go back for thirds. Mmmhmm.
